Positive and Negative Space

Positive Space is defined as, space that is occupied by an element or form. The picture to left is called, The Charm of Substance, it is created by Martin Puryear. The form in the picture is the positve space. not the area around it, but the form itself. This form helps us recognise the impotance of the differences between positive and negative space. Negative Space is defines as, the space around and between the subject(s) of an image. In this case its the painted wall behind it, and also the area in which the form is sitting on.
